Old Vine Kerner – 2022

Kerner (a relative of Riesling) is the pride and joy of Astley Vineyard. Produced from vines planted in 1971, Old Vine Kerner is our flagship wine intended for sophisticated dinners, or sharing with appreciative friends.

2022 produced some of the ripest Kerner we have ever experienced - harvested at over 12.5% abv. The result is an astoundingly aromatic and intense wine.

Made of: 100% Kerner (96% from a single tank)

Tastes/Aromas of: Tangerine, Fresh apricot, Orange blossom, Ginger

Sweetness: Dry

Acidity: Medium +

2022 was very kind to our Kerner. Harvested at record sugar levels, this rich & aromatic expression of Kerner is both joyous and fascinatingly complex. The 7 month fermentation, and an extra month on lees created a luxuriously textured wine that somehow managed to not overpower the primary fruit. The result is one of the best wines we think we have ever made. Enjoy on its own, or alongside rich north European cuisine (roast pork, mushrooms).
