About Chris Haywood

Chris is Astley Vineyard’s winemaker, and also manages our sales, trade customersevents and online.

From an early age, Chris knew he was passionate about food & drink. A career in the music industry was quickly followed by a move to his current industry. It was his job at Harvey Nichols' wineshop that cemented his future in wine.

A passion for wine & beer was converted to formal knowledge and experience under his excellent mentor and boss. Sadly, a promotion to their buying team was rejected due to his lack of WSET at this point, so that is exactly what he got next.

WSET Level 3 (Distinction), a Plumpton College winemaking course, and simply the opportunity (and desire) to experiment cemented the skills he uses today.

Innovation & experimentation are increasingly applied across our boutique range of wines. Interest is prized above tradition; which has since awarded us places on Michelin Star wine lists across the country. He has also been a judge at wine competitions and public speaker at numerous public events.

Chris is also a passionate educator. If you would like to speak to him about training, consultation, private events or a wine concierge service, please get in touch.

Favourite wines: Vintage/BDN Champagne, Riesling, Assyrtiko, Albarino, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir
